Nansensenteret — ground floor with no as-built drawings

The challenge

The client needed information about the ground floor of the building, with no as-built drawings available. Traditional methods would have required 3–6 weeks of chiselling up significant parts of the floor and recasting it.

The Birdsview solution

Birdsview scanned the building in 2 hours, covering 600 m², and delivered a full 3D model with rebar mapping and slab thickness.

“Traditional chiselling would have meant severe tenant disruption. Birdsview allowed us to inspect the floor without destructive interventions or costly downtime.”

Case study — Bridge

Post-tension cables mapped without chiselling

The challenge

The client needed information about post-tension cables and general reinforcement in selected areas of a bridge. Chiselling carries a high risk of damaging tension cables, repairs after chipping can create weak points, and only a limited area can be inspected that way.

The Birdsview solution

Birdsview scanned the bridge in 2–3 hours across the selected areas and delivered a full 3D model with rebar mapping and post-tension cables.

“Birdsview provides an accurate and efficient solution for mapping reinforcement and concrete cover, giving us a significantly better foundation for precise maintenance planning.”

Six BKK substations retrofitted on real geometry

Case study — Substations

Six BKK substations retrofitted on real geometry

The challenge

BKK wanted to retrofit six older substations, mainly built in concrete, with inadequate or uncertain drawing bases. Traditionally this meant drilling or opening the structures — expensive and high risk.

The Birdsview solution

Birdsview scanned the six substations, one per day, and delivered full 3D models with rebar mapping and key structural information — used both for planning adaptations and for creating new, precise 3D models of the stations.

“With Birdsview Concrete, we uncover information that would otherwise require physical intervention to obtain. This leads to faster decision-making, improved planning, and more efficient execution.”

— Lawrence Nilsson Henneli Nordås, Project Manager at BKK
